Hip implants more risky for some patients

Posted on September 7th, 2011 No Comments

Anyone can need a hip replacement and anyone can suffer side effects from a defective hip replacement.  However, there are certain factors that can make a person more susceptible to needing a hip replacement or replacement revision surgery.

About 12 to 13 percent of hip replacement patients suffer side effects from their hip replacement.  Factors that may make a hip replacement patient more likely to suffer side effects include a patient’s sex, size, and bone health.

Female patients are generally more at risk of suffering complications from a hip implant than male patients.  In addition, smaller-framed people are more likely to experience side effects than people with larger frames.  Lastly, people with weakened bones or poor bone health are more likely to be affected by a defective hip implant.
