Ways in which the ASR hip implant fails

Posted on September 19th, 2011 No Comments

The reason Johnson & Johnson and DePuy Orthopaedics issued a recall of their ASR hip implant was because it was shown to have an unacceptably high failure rate.

In the years that the ASR hip implant was used in hip replacement surgeries, more than 40,000 patients received the DePuy ASR hip replacement.  According to research into the medical device, about 50 percent of these patients are likely to experienced hip implant failure in a much shorter time period than DePuy advertised.

The ways in which the DePuy ASR hip implant can fail include loosening of the hip joint, slipping in between the ball and socket of the hip implant, the release of metal shavings into the bloodstream and nearby tissue, and stunted bone growth.

If you or a loved one’s DePuy ASR hip implant has failed and caused pain or injury, contact the DePuy hip implant defect lawyers of Williams Hart at 800-761-3187 to learn more about how we can help you.
