Explaining hip replacement revisions

Posted on August 30th, 2011 No Comments

A hip replacement revision is a surgery that is done when an individual has a defective or old hip replacement and needs to have it replaced with a new hip implant.  The difference between an old and a defective hip implant has to do with how long the replacement has worked properly.

Successful hip implants should last for 10 years to up to 30 years.  However, defective hip implants usually only work without problems for 2 to 5 years.  DePuy Orthopaedics’s 93,000 recalled hip implants have been found to stop working properly within 2 to 5 years.

Revision surgeries are often more complicated and difficult than a patient’s initial hip replacement surgery.  Furthermore, revision surgeries have been shown to be less successful and less lasting than initial surgeries.

If you or a loved one needs a revision surgery or has had a revision surgery after having a recalled DePuy hip implant in your initial hip replacement surgery, contact the DePuy hip replacement recall lawyers of Williams Hart at 800-761-3187 to learn more about how we can help you.
