FAQs on hip replacement surgery

Posted on June 8th, 2012 No Comments

Before a hip replacement surgery occurs, there are a few questions that are usually asked by patients in order to determine if the procedure is right for them.

First, many wonder who should receive a hip replacement surgery and the most common answer to this is adults that have hip fractures orĀ  hip arthritis that causes them much pain. Many candidates for this surgery are between the age 50 and 80, but some conditions or issues cause the replacement surgery to occur earlier.

According to Penn Live, another question that arises is what risks are associated with the surgery. Some risks include infection, blood clots and blood thinning, but these can be somewhat rare. A well-replaced hip should last up to 15 years, but some hip replacement systems have been recalled because of their high failure rate.
